Review of the Broadway revival of 'Gypsy'
Thursday April 17, 2008
The revival of Gypsy starring Patti LuPone is outstanding. To begin with, I think that Gypsy is one of the strongest shows written, with a great book and excellent score. By title, the story is about the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and how she went from being a no-talent on the Vaudeville circuit to the highest-paid stripper. But really the show is about Rose, Gypsy's mother, who pushed her children June and Louise into show business and was the ultimate stage mother.Image of Laura Benanti as Gypsy Rose Lee.
