House Movers: Guthrie’s Taking "Little House on the Prairie" on the Road

Little House on the Prairie, a new musical debuting at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, officially opened August 15, and, according to Playbill.com, ticket demand has already sparked an extended run and plans for a 40-city tour next year. Cities and venues for the tour haven’t been announced, Playbill said.

But with that momentum, is Broadway in the future? The show certainly has Broadway talent behind it. The musical is based on the Laura Ingalls Wilder book series that has captured readers’ imaginations for decades, and inspired television shows and movies. Rachel Scheinkin, a Tony winner for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, wrote the musical’s book, and Little House is directed by Francesca Zambello, represented on Broadway now with Disney's The Little Mermaid.

For trivia fans, Melissa Gilbert, the child star of the Little House TV series, stars as Ma in Little House the musical.
