New Musical, 'Rob Roy,' Gets Chicago Launch
Chicago’s Arie Crown Theater is launching Rob Roy the Musical, a new work to be directed by Len Cariou, who won a Tony for starring in Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeny Todd. Playbill reported that Rob Roy will begin performances February 3, open February 8, and play through March 15.
David Warrack wrote book and music for the show, which tells the story of Rob Roy MacGregor, who changed from the quiet leader of a clan into a Scottish folk hero through his battles with the Duke of Montrose. According to Playbill, George Masswohl will star as Rob Roy, with Susan Gilmour as his wife, and David Dunbar as the Duke.
The musical premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006.
