Cool Chance to get Behind the Scenes with 'Altar Boyz'

Thursday December 4, 2008

Even if you don't know Ken Davenport, you do know him. He's the guy on the iphone commercial from last year talking about how he used the phone to create viral awareness for his off-Broadway show. Ken is also the guiding force behind the off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz, and he'll lead the show's creative team in an audience talk back session after the Sunday, December 14, matinee.

The talk back will focus on how Altar Boyz was created, including songs and scenes that were cut. Answering audience questions will be a panel including the show's composers and lyricists, Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker; its book writer, Kevin Del Aguila; and Marc Kessler and Davenport, who conceived it. Also featured will be choreographer Christopher Gattelli, director Stafford Arima, and the Altar Boyz cast performing some of the songs that didn't make it into the final production.

If you don't know, Altar Boyz, parodies boy bands with five religious young men out to sing, dance, and save your soul. In addition to winning the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, it has spun off several other standing productions as well as a national tour.
