Stephen Schwartz to Receive Rodgers Award
Academy Award-winner and five-time Tony nominee Stephen Schwartz will be the 12th recipient of Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's prestigious Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre. Schwartz, who wrote music and lyrics for Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, and a whole lot more, will be presented the award by the great composer's daughter Mary Rodgers Guettel at the CLO's gala in Pittsburg on May 9.
In selecting Schwartz, the CLO acknowledged not only his accomplishments on stage but also his work to support development of new composers and shows.
Schwartz will be in good company as a Rodgers Award recipient. Others composers who have won the award include Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
