Off-Broadway League Launches New Website

Thursday February 12, 2009

It's got a new name and a new website and a new deal to get you to off-Broadway theaters. The Off-Broadway League, which used to be known as the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers, has launched an interactive website that allows theatergoers to find shows fitted to their personal preferences.

On the home page of the new website, under the heading "Fnd a Show," users can search for a show to see based on a variety of criteria such as "Make Me Laugh," "Help Me Teach My Children About Theater," and many more. Users also can sign up for an e-mail newsletter giving exclusive access to promotions, and newsletter recipients are eligible to vote for the Audience Choice Award, which has been added to the League's annual Lucille Lortel Awards. The Lortel Awards, established in 1986, recognize excellence in a variety of categories for off-Broadway productions.

Technically, off-Broadway includeds Manhattan theaters seating between 100 and 499 people, and these theaters are all over town. The site also offers an interactive map to help you find them.

The League also has teamed up with NYC & Company for a promotion through March 1. In the "On the House" promotion, 30 off-Broadway shows are offering two-for-one tickets, and with purchase, you get a free Coke at a pre- or post-show meal at one of 11 restaurants. Details are on the website.
