Broadway League Releases Annual Survey Results

Thursday February 19, 2009

Next time you're at a Broadway show, take a look at the person next to you. If you're an American who doesn't live in New York, that person is from New York City. If you're from New York, that person is from out of town.

OK, well, not exactly, but close. The Broadway League just released its 11th demographics report, looking at who attends Broadway shows and where they come from. Continuing a trend, 65 percent of seats sold in the 2007-2008 season when to domestic or international tourists. Fifty percent of audience members came from another state in the U.S., and 15 percent came from another country.

One thing I found amazing, 30 percent of tickets are bought by the 5 percent of theatergoers who see 15 or more shows a year.

The full report is for sale through The Broadway League, and I'll get a more detailed story posted about these facts soon.
