Called the "first great American opera," Porgy and Bess is a classic show scheduled for "summertime" out-of-town performances before heading back to Broadway!
The previously announced four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald will be joined by Norm Lewis of Les Miz fame as "Porgy" and comedic actor David Alan Grier as "Sportin' Life."
The original Gershwin production premiered on Broadway October 10, 1935, breaking barriers by casting classically-trained African-American singers. This incredible revival will play at the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge August 17 through October 2, 2011, then transfer to Broadway just before the winter holidays.
Broadway Previews for Porgy and Bess at the Richard Rodgers Theatre begin on December 17th with an Opening Night set for January 12th, 2012.
