The talk of the season, the film version of Les Misérables, has taken the world by storm, with a hit film at the box office, a #1 soundtrack, and now a slew of nominations for the 85th Annual Academy Awards.

Not surprisingly, two well-known faces in the cast -- Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway -- have been honored with nominations, while Academy Award winner Russell Crowe and the legit Broadway and West End performers were overlooked. Also nominated is the new song, "Suddenly," written especially for the film.

Here's the list of the 8 categories in which Les Misérables was nominated for the coveted golden statuette known as the "Oscar."

  • Actor in a Leading Role - Hugh Jackman
  • Actress in a Supporting Role - Anne Hathaway
  • Costume Design - Paco Delgado
  • Makeup and Hairstyling - Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell
  • Music (Original Song) - "Suddenly," Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg; Lyric by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil
  • Best Picture - Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward and Cameron Mackintosh, Producers
  • Production Design - Eve Stewart; Set Decoration: Anna Lynch-Robinson
  • Sound Mixing - Andy Nelson, Mark Paterson and Simon Hayes

To see how Les Mis fares at the Oscars, watch the 85th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24, 2013, on the ABC Television Network.
