Theater Company Seeks Full Time Education Director
Thursday March 10, 2005
The Theater Offensive, New England’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender theater company, seeks an accomplished theater education professional to direct the True Colors: Out Youth Theater program and oversee other educational activities.
Strong candidates will have experience building superior programs, a rich background executing best practices in the field, and a well-tested passion for working with at-risk young people from diverse backgrounds. The Education Director will execute or oversee all aspects of the True Colors program, including recruiting participants, theatrical training, supervising collective creation of performance pieces, marketing performances to schools and community centers, managing the program budget, evaluating participants and the program itself, documenting achievements, communicating with collaborating agencies and creating performance events. Solidifying consistent effectiveness in the True Colors program requires top-notch organizational skills and extraordinary talent for creating theater with young people. Satisfying the national interest in the program as a model in its field will demand an exceptional level of innovation and broad leadership skills. Other responsibilities of the Education Director include designing and implementing workshops for adults, as well as coordinating educational interests with other programs (such as the AIDS education theater troupe “A Street Theater Named Desire” and the “Plays At Work” new play development program).
The Education Director is supervised by the Artistic Director and works closely with other Staff, as well as supervising interns. Qualifications include a Masters Degree in Theater Education (or equivalent experience) and at least two years of work in the field. A high level of experience working with young LGBT people and young people of color is a must. LGBT people of color and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
