Exciting programs for artists
Tuesday March 15, 2005
The Field Announces three programs for performing artists who work in the disciplines of dance, theater, music, performance art, or text in Brooklyn. These programs provide 1) space to create new pieces, collaborations, and material, 2) space to show new work, and 3) a training program to help artists develop skills and find employment in arts administration. All three programs are offered at no or low cost to participants.
ARTWARD BOUND is a 10-14 day residency that gives artists a chance to create new work, receive peer feedback on developing work in a supportive environment, focus on personal career development through group brainstorming and strategizing, and enjoy a sense of community by connecting with peers. This year’s Artward Bound retreats will occur from June–September at arts centers in Florida, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. To be eligible applicants must have worked professionally for a minimum of three years and have publicly presented at least 60 minutes of original material. The program is free, including lodging, meals and transportation from New York City. Participation in Artward Bound is awarded via a lottery. For more information about this program and to access guidelines and an application, visit www.thefield.org, email info@thefield.org, or call (212) 691-6969. APPLICATION DEADLINE is APRIL 1. This program is offered, in part, with support of the National Endowment for the Arts.
FIELD ARTIST RESIDENCIES offer free space to performing artists at our new studio (roughly 40 x 26 feet) located in New York City's Chelsea’s art gallery district. Both rehearsal space grant (six hours of space per week for four months), and showing space grant (one to four weekends of space for informal showings of new work) are available and will be given out via a lottery. Please note: In order to cover some of the administrative costs of this program, The Field is charging individuals who are not members of The Field an application fee of $25 to apply for this program; artists who are awarded a space grant are asked to become Field members if they are not already. For more information about this program and to access guidelines and an application, visit www.thefield.org, email info@thefield.org, or call (212) 691-6969. APPLICATION DEADLINE is APRIL 11 at 5 pm. The Field gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Tides Foundation for helping to make this program possible.
ARTIST-MANAGER PARTNERSHIPS provide training to artists who are interested in finding employment as arts administrators. The program also provides management services to arts groups and non-profits that seek arts managers to help with their administrative needs. The program has two parts. First, artists undergo a two-month training period in June and July (artists must be available Wednesday evenings beginning at 6 pm for weekly training seminars). Following the training period, artists take part in a paid internship (100 hours of work in exchange for a stipend of $1,000) in the fall of 2005. Artists who apply to train as arts administrators through this program must currently earn a low to moderate income (defined as up to $35,000/year). Arts groups or non-profits that wish to participate in the program must demonstrate a financial ability to hire the intern, should there be a good fit between the intern and the arts group and a willingness to work together once the internship is completed. Participation will be decided by a peer panel. For more information about this program and to access guidelines and an application, visit www.thefield.org, email info@thefield.org, or call (212) 691-6969. APPLICATION DEADLINE is MAY 2. The Field gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Deutsche Bank for supporting Artist-Manager Partnerships.
