Rush and Student Tickets

Current Broadway Bargains

From Maria Knapp, for About.com

Here is a list of current availability for student and rush tickets. But first a quick explanation of the differences between the various ticket discounts.

Student Tickets: A valid student ID must be presented to take advantage of these offers.

Rush tickets: These are tickets theaters offer at a certain time, generally an hour to half hour before curtain. It usually means waiting in a long long to get these seats and standing in line does not guarantee you will get a ticket.

Lottery tickets: Theaters reserve several seats, often in the front row. Patrons submit their names and and tickets are drawn. Each theater has its own policy regarding lottery tickets, so please check carefully.

Standing Room: Some theaters offer these tickets all the time, some only if the performance is sold out. Generally it means standing in the back of the house behind the audience. Sometimes there are vacant seats that you can sit in during the second act.

Obstructed View: These seats have partially blocked views. It may be that there is a column in the way, an overhang from the mezzanine may block part of the stage, the seat may be way on the side, or up so high that it is not possible to see the whole stage.
