Broadway shows and veteran actors showed up big in the nominations for the 66th Golden Globe Awards. The Broadway impact ranged from plays and musicals turned into movies to stars moving from stage to screen.
The Golden Globes are awarded each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This years’ awards show will be broadcast January 11 on NBC.

Doubt
The movie version of John Patrick Shanley’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama received five nominations including: Best Dramatic Actress, Meryl Streep; Supporting Actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman; Supporting Actress, Amy Adams and Viola Davis; and screenplay, Shanley, who also directed the movie. The show first played at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004.
Mamma Mia!
ABBA’s long-running musical made big bucks onscreen and earned two nominations for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy; and Best Actress, Musical or Comedy; Meryl Streep.
Frost/Nixon
This former Broadway play, now on national tour, garnered five Golden Globe nominations including: Best Motion Picture, Drama; Best Dramatic Actor, Frank Langella; director, Ron Howard; screenplay, Peter Morgan; and score, Hans Zimmer.
Langella is on Broadway now as Sir Thomas Moore in Roundabout Theatre Company’s A Man for All Seasons.
