The Pajama Game

The Pajama Game is set at the Sleep Tite pajama factory in Iowa. The workers want a seven-and-a-half cent raise bringing their union head, Babe Williams, into contact with the new foreman, Sid Sorokin. Babe and Sid find themselves falling in love amid the strife of a potential strike.

Trivia:
This is Harry Connick, Jr.'s Broadway theatrical debut. He wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway show Thou Shall Not. Thou Shall Not was a reworking of Émile Zola's novel, Thérèse Raquin, transplanted to 1940's New Orleans. Connick was nominated for a 2002 Tony for Best Original Musical Score. Also nominated from Thou Shall Not was Norbert Leo Butz for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Kelli O'Hara won a Tony last year for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Light in the Piazza.

The Pajama Game premiered on Broadway in 1954 starring Janis Paige and John Raitt. Shirley MacLaine was in the chorus until Carol Haney (playing the roll of Gladys) broke her ankle. MacLaine was noticed by director/producer Hal B. Wallis who signed her to go to Hollywood.

The popular movie version of The Pajama Game stars Doris Day and John Raitt.
