Definition: Broadway refers to the preeminent professional theatre productions in the Theatre District of New York City. This brand of professional theatre gets its name from Broadway Avenue that runs through the Theatre District of Times Square. A Broadway theatre is defined as a theatre with 500 or more seats. Currently, only 38 theatres in the Theatre District of New York City qualify as Broadway houses.
