(This is the press release for 2004. If you enjoyed this haunted house, the 2006 haunted horror is called Nightmare. The house has proved so popular that they have expanded and there is now one in each of the five boroughs: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Just the website was terrifying enough for me!)
Producers Publicity Outfitters (Timothy Haskell producer/ director of Road House: The Stage Play)and Travis Stewart (American Vaudeville Theater, House of Trash, et al) are proud to announce the creation of the citys only genuinely frightening haunted house attraction, presented by the titular Halloween retail giant Halloween Adventure Haunted House on the entire bottom floor of the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center - all 9,000 square feet (located at 107 Suffolk Street between Rivington and Delancey). The chills start October 21st, and end on Halloween, October 31st, running Thursdays Saturdays from 7 12 AM, and Sunday, October 31st from 7 1 AM. Tickets are $20, and $15 for very, very bold 16 year olds and under, and only $5 more if you want to go through it again. A new tour starts every 5 minutes starting when the doors open at 7 PM. Reservations will not be taken. For more information call 212.946.2098 or got to www.hauntedhousenyc.com.
Halloween Adventure Haunted House is a 10 room tour of an eclectic mix of nightmarish and interactive vignettes, designed by 10 different local NY artists. Each chamber is completely unique, although all are distinguished by a determination to avoid traditional Halloween clichés such as Frankenstein's Monster and the werewolf, which have long since lost their power to strike real fear into the hearts of audiences. This Haunted House is geared more towards psychological fear, using more sensory and visceral methods to make one jump out of their pants and afraid of the dark forever!
In early August the producers of the Halloween Adventure Haunted House put out a call for submissions from different artists, designers and theatre companies to design the scariest room ever! They were given only one mandate it had to be something that was sincerely disturbing, shocking and played with the senses. There were nearly 100 submissions, and those were whittled down to the 10 best, and the only thing they had in common was that they were all twisted (theres the scary clown room, the poltergeist room, murderous 6-year old room, the claustrophobia room, and many more!)
Halloween Adventure Haunted House is more than just the citys most innovative and terrifying haunted house tour: while waiting to go on the tour in the gallery waiting area there will classic horror movies showing, scary story and poem readings, artist vendors selling everything from pumpkins pies to homemade Halloween costumes, and holiday games like bobbing for brains, and jack-o-lantern carving.
The artists that were selected are: Kass and Schaeffer Horror Division, Red Humour Salon, Maura Kelley, Victor and Kim Catano, Michele Chivu and Kelly Rauch, 31 Down Radio Theater, Erin Andrea, Aaron and Justin Haskell, Scary Clowns, Inc. and Trav S.D.
