Big Fish

A fanciful musical set in the American South comes to audiences in Chicago in the Spring of 2013. With a Tony Award-winning creative team and star performer, Big Fish promises to deliver big laughs and big heart.

This stage musical adaptation of "mythic proportions," stars Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz as "Edward Bloom," a man who searches to find the truth about his father and his family, peeling away the years of tall tales his imaginative father spun as Edward was growing up. Along the way, he discovers the importance of living big and following your dreams.

Norbert Leo Butz won the coveted Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical twice -- first, in 2005 for both Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and again in 2011 for Catch Me If You Can, by "SMASH's" Marc Shaiman.

For its pre-Broadway world premiere run, Big Fish will play at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago, located at 24 West Randolph Street. This will be a strictly limited engagement running for only 5 weeks, with Preview performances beginning Tuesday, April 2, 2013, and the official Opening Night set for Sunday, April 21, 2013. This Broadway-bound show will play in Chicago through Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Big Fish features Music and Lyrics by Grammy Award and Tony Award nominee Andrew Lippa, who also composed the Off-Broadway hit Wild Party and Broadway's ghoulish delight, The Addams Family. The Book for Big Fish is penned by Grammy Award and BAFTA Award nominee John August.

Big Fish is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Stroman won the Tony for Best Director of a Musical for The Producers, the new Mel Brooks musical and Tony Awards for Best Choreographer for Crazy for You, the 1995 Broadway revival of Show Boat, Contact, and The Producers, the new Mel Brooks musical.

The design team also includes five-time Tony Award winner William Ivey Long on Costume Design. Long won Tony trophies for Costuming for his work on Nine, Crazy for You, The Producers, the new Mel Brooks musical, Hairspray, and Grey Gardens. Lighting is by two-time Tony Award winning Lighting Designer Donald Holder, who won for The Lion King and Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific.

Scenic Design is by Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award winner Julian Crouch, with Sound Design by Los Angeles Drama Critics Award winner Jon Weston and Drama Desk Award winner Benjamin Pearcy.

Based on the 1998 novel, Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions by Daniel Wallace, the stage show is based on the novel as well as the film version of the book. Columbia Pictures released the film version of Big Fish in 2003 directed by the avante garde Tim Burton and starring Ewan McGregor of Moulin Rouge, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, Jessica Lang, and Helena Bonham Carter, most recently of the Harry Potter films. The film was nominated for an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, 4 Golden Globe Awards, as well as 7 BAFTA Awards.

The Chicago production of Big Fish is produced by Dan Jinks, Bruce Cohen and Stage Entertainment with Roy Furman, The Nederlander Organization, John Domo, and Broadway Across America.
