Gypsy of the Year

22nd Gypsy of the Year - 2010

Gypsy of the Year

22nd Annual Gypsy of the Year for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS 2010

James Zielinski

The 22nd Gypsy of the Year Competition featured the amazing talents of Broadway’s unsung heroes, the chorus members. As a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, this year’s show featured outstanding and unusual performances by cast members of 17 current Broadway shows and national tours.

Rock of Ages chorus member Julie Nelson and her partner, Rudi Macaggi, won the competition with their amazing acrobatic routine while The Addams Family’s Adam Riegler came in second with his comedic monologue written by Nathan Lane exploring what it means to be in a dark comedy like The Addams Family.

The first Gypsy of the Year was held in 1989. It was co-hosted by Tony Award winner Tyne Daly and featured performances by the Broadway revival cast of Gypsy.
