Jekyll & Hyde the Musical

The Cult Favorite That Became an International Hit

Jekyll & Hyde the Musical

Jekyll and Hyde 2013 Broadway Revival

Frank Wildhorn's most known and certainly most successful musical, Jekyll and Hyde, will return to the boards of Broadway in Spring 2013. The original Broadway production made stars out of the leads, Robert Cuccioli and Linda Eder, and spawned numerous songs that have become concert and audition standards.

Jekyll and Hyde the Musical was conceived by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cudon, with Wildhorn composing the music. He also wrote the music for The Scarlet Pimpernel, , Wonderland, and Bonnie & Clyde. The Book and Lyrics were written by two-time Academy Award winner, Emmy Award winner, and four-time Tony Award nominee Leslie Bricusse, who also penned Stop the World - I Want to Get Off and The Roar of Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd.

The story is based on the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, which tells the tale of a London doctor who conducts experiments on himself in search of a cure for mental illness but unintentionally taps in to an evil alterego that wrecks havoc on London.

Just as Andrew Lloyd Webber did with Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, Jekyll and Hyde began with a concept cast album. Produced in 1990, the album featured the incredible vocal talents of "Star Search" champion Linda Eder and Les Misérables' Colm Wilkinson.

A workshop production in Houston and another concept cast album led to a 30-city national tour that created a buzz about the show. Jekyll and Hyde opened on Broadway in 1997, winning accolades for the actors as well as the creative team.

The original Broadway cast album of Jekyll and Hyde features the award-winning voices of Robert Cuccioli and Linda Eder as well as Christiane Noll.

In 2013, Jekyll and Hyde returns to Broadway with "American Idol" star and Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis, of Rock of Ages, and Grammy Award nominee Deborah Cox as "Lucy." The production will be directed and choreographed by 2012 Tony Award Nominee Jeff Calhoun of Newsies.

A pre-tour preview engagement of Jekyll and Hyde the Musical will run at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, CA, from September 7 to 30, 2012. Then the show will embark on a 25-week national tour, beginning at San Diego's Civic Theatre in San Diego, CA, October 2, 2012.
