The Woman in White is Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical based on the immensely popular Victorian novel by Wilkie Collins. The story is about two women, Marian Halcombe, the elder, and Laura Fairlie, her beautiful, younger, half sister. Sir Pervival Glyde is plotting to take their wealth, but the mysterious, ghost-like woman in white, Anne Catherick, tries to help them by revealing a horrible secret.

Trivia:
The Woman in White was originally published as a weekly serial in Charles Dicken's publication All the Year Round from November 1859 to August 1860. It was the Lost of its day. Everybody read it and speculated on what would happen each week. (I guess at the local pub. They wouldn't have had water coolers.) It was so hugely popular that there was all sorts of merchandise such as Woman in White perfume and a song, the Woman in White Waltz.

Another interesting fact, this show came about because in 2002 Andrew Lloyd Webber was doing an interview on TV and said that he didn't have a current project. If anyone had an idea for a new musical, they should let him know. There were a many phone calls, one of which lead to him reading The Woman in White.
