About This Show:

Exit the King, which stars Oscar-winners Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon, might best be termed an absurdly funny drama. Playwright Eugene Ionesco described it as “an apprenticeship for death.”

In Exit the King, as King Berenger I, now over 400 years old, faces the end of his kingdom, his health, and his life, he is cajoled and comforted respectively by his first wife, Queen Margeurite, and his second wife, Queen Marie.

The play, which premiered in 1962, examines how a man deals with death and the effect the run-up to death has on his life and the lives of those around him.

Who’s Who and What’s What:

The king of Exit the King is Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush, who reprises the role he originated in the critically-acclaimed Australian production, which is transferring to Broadway. Susan Sarandon will play Marguerite. It marks the Broadway debut for both actors.
