About This Show:

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone marks the revival of this second play in the 10-play cycle by August Wilson. (The second in the cycle's chronology, not the second to be written.)

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, like nine of the ten plays in Wilson’s cycle, is set in Pittsburgh, this one in 1911, and tells the story of the African-American experience in that decade. The show focuses on the lives of Southern blacks who left the farms for opportunity in the cities.

Who's Who and What's What:

The Lincoln Center production is directed by Tony-winner Bartlett Sher, who also directed The Light in the Piazza and South Pacific there. Joe Turner’s Come and Gone features Ernie Hudson, Michael Cummings, and Arliss Howard.

The production team includes Michael Yeargan, sets; Catherine Zuber, costumes; and Brian MacDevitt, lighting.
