'Mary Stuart' - Broadway Transfer of Hit London Play

About This Show:

Mary Stuart is a London play now that moved to Broadway and depitcts the fight between Britain's Queen Elizabeth I and her cousin, Mary I of Scotland, who, though imprisoned, makes claim to the throne of England. The 1800 play by Frederich Schiller received a new translation from the German for a hit London stage production in 2005.

Who's Who and What's What:

In the 20-week run of Mary Stuart, Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter reprise their performances in the lead roles in London. The play is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who is represented on Broadwa now with Mamma Mia! The new translation is by Peter Oswald.
