Pal Joey - Roundabout's New Take on a Rodgers and Hart Classic

From , former About.com Guide

101 Words About This Show:

Pal Joey is a groundbreaking musical from the 1930s that anticipated the so-called “Golden Age” of Broadway where plot, song, and dance formed an integrated whole.

Pal Joey is the story of Joey Evans, who wants to own a night club. Vera Simpson is a rich, older woman who can bankroll him . . . but she wants him committed to her. Linda English is a chorus girl and singer, also in love with Joey.

Does Joey follow his heart with Linda or his ambition with Vera?

All this and songs such as “I Could Write a Book” and “Betwitched, Bothered, and Bewildered.”

Who’s Who and What’s What:

The revival of Pal Joey is directed by Joe (Wicked) Mantello and choreographed by Graciela Daniele. The original cast includes Christian Hoff of Jersey Boys, Stockard Channing, and Martha Plimpton.

The show has a new book by Richard Greenberg, and, of course, the timeless music and lyrics of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. (“I Could Write a Book,” is quite simply one of my favorite songs.)

Pal Joey is a production of Roundabout Theatre Company.
