About This Show:

In The Philanthropist, a revival of Christopher Hampton’s dark comedy, Britain’s prime minister and his cabinet have all been assassinated, meanwhile, in the Ivory Tower of higher education, a clueless professor thinks real hard about anything but something relevant.

The Philanthropist debuted in London in 1970 and ran 69 performances on Broadway in 1971.

Who’s Who and What’s What:

Originally produced on Broadway by David Merrick, this revival by the Roundabout Theatre Company features Matthew Broderick, Steven Weber and Jennifer Mudge.

David Grindley, who recently directed the well-reviewed revival of The American Plan, directs The Philanthropist.
