Mary Poppins, the beloved P.L. Travers book, was a 1964 Disney movie, then a London stage hit by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, and now a Broadway musical.
Mary Poppins is the story of the proper-but-dysfunctional Banks family, which is blessed by the magical presence of super-nanny, Mary. With the help of super-dancer, the chimney sweep Bert, she helps father, mother, and the two Banks children find out how much they mean to each other.
The show adds songs and plot twists not in the movie, plus deepens character where it can. And, as you would expect, special effects are very special indeed.
If you like the movie of Mary Poppins, youll find all that and more on stage. The show features all the familiar characters, all the songs plus some, and it deepens the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Banks, which, in turn, makes the misbehavior of the children all the more understandable.
Mary was nominated for seven Tony Awards, winning for Best Scenic design, and youll understand why as you move from floor to floor in the massive set of the Banks' home.
