Jonathan Larson, the writer/composer of Rent, died January 25, 1996, the night before the show opened at the New York Theater Workshop. Three months later his show opened on Broadway to huge acclaim. His family created this foundation to fund composers, lyricists and bookwriters who work in musical theatre.
