The winners for the 61st Annual Tony Awards were announced in a ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 10, 2007. The big winners were The Coast of Utopia winning seven awards including Best Play, and Spring Awakening with seven, including Best Musical. I think the saddest thing is that Journey's End won Best Revival of a Play, yet it closed today due to lack of audience. The Coast of Utopia, which was a three play, nine-hour drama was not only packed, but extended at Lincoln Center. And yet drama can't seem to thrive on Broadway. I wonder if there is a difference in audience. Perhaps Lincoln Center is less dependent on tourists. Maybe it is considered more of a "cultural center" with its opera house which helps attract a different crowd.

David Hyde Pierce, who has won four Emmys, can now add a Tony to his collection. Although Pierce has been on Broadway before, most recently in Spamalot, this was his first Tony nomination.
