Tony Awards

The Tony Awards have acknowledged the importance of the Broadway musical since the inception of "The Antoinette Perry Award" in 1947. The naming of the category has not been so consistent. Alternately called the Tony for the Composer, the Composer/Lyricist, Score, the award is now called the Tony Award for Original Musical Score and given to the composer and lyricist of a musical that premiered on Broadway during that season. In some years, an award for the Score was not given.
